FOLK MUSIC STUDENTS FROM SETESDAL AND GUDBRANDSDAL
"FOLK MUSIC STUDENTS FROM SETESDAL AND GUDBRANDSDAL, NORWAY," will
perform at the Monday, March 8th meeting, of Sons of Norway's Fedraheimen Lodge, 01-059, Willmar, MN. The group is being brought to the USA by
Terje Solheim, International Director for District 8, Norway, Sons of
Norway. The group is comprised of ten students and two teachers. The
students number five boys and five girls. They have studied folk
music for three years at Norway's two high schools (videregående
skoler) that specialize in teaching Norwegian Folk Music. These are
located in Valle, Setesdal, and Vinstra, Gudbrandsdal. The students
are all 18 – 20 years old.
The group will perform a 90-minute concert. The students perform different
kinds of Norwegian singing, they play flutes, hardanger fiddle, piano,
guitar and more. They will also have a 15 minute session of
sing-a-long in the program, so people will have a good chance to
participate. The students will bring CD`s to sell, along with a few
other interesting items from Norway.
All of the above will be a fund raiser for the Sons of Norway
Humanitarian Fund and so, for that reason, a
free-will offering will be solicited that night at the entrance registration table, with a
suggested $5.00 per person amount. No tickets will be for sale. Come
and be entertained. Come and preserve, promote and cherish the
Norwegian culture. Come and make a contribution, tax-deductible, to
the Sons of Norway Humanitarian Fund.
This is the first event of the Fedraheimen Lodge's annual Norwegian Cultural Concert Series
