Norwegian Heritage Week in Thief River Falls will be held Sat., May 11 through Sat., May 18 in 2019. An event is held every day throughout the week, beginning with Uffda Day at the Pioneer Village on Saturday. The hours are 10am to 4pm, $5 adults and $2 children admission prices. There will be Viking re-enactors, Scandinavian crafts, Norwegian foods, and so much more. A great day for all ages!
Sunday, May 12, 3 pm in the afternoon at the United Methodist Church is a performance of “Tomte and the Troll” with professional actors portraying a delightful story. Monday is movie night, 7pm at the Northland College Auditorium showing “The King’s Choice,” a true story of Norway’s decisions made when the Nazis invaded in 1940. Tuesday, May 14, again 7pm at the NCTC Aud. is the Emmy-winning production of “The Stavig Letters,” a reader’s theater of actual letters between brothers in Norway and America. Wednesday, May 15 is a Norwegian torsk dinner served 5-7 at the Eagles hall. Tickets are $15 and ONLY sold at Hugo’s until May 10, with limited seating. The caterer MUST know exactly how many to serve. Thursday, May 16 is the Old Time Dance with the Cathy Erickson Band, 7-11 pm at the Eagles. $7.50 includes a 9pm lunch. Friday, Syttende Mai is the annual open house at Northern State Bank. Saturday, May 18 there are two events: The UFFDA CHALLENGE, an obstacle challenge for beginners and seasoned pros in the obstacle race world. Begins 9am at Hartz Park. At 10:30 on Sat., May 18, Dr. Odd Lovoll, renowned professor emeritus at St. Olaf College will speak on his latest book “Two Homelands” (Norway and America) at the public library in Thief River Falls. He will do book signing and is happy to visit with his audience.
