Nortonna 1-638 recently donated $1,600 to Lincoln Elementary in Owatonna, MN, for the purchase of additional Scandinavian kicksleds for the physical education department. The money was raised through member donations and fundraisers. Pictured are Dustin Thorson, Lincoln Elementary physical education teacher, and Brian Rysavy, Nortonna Lodge president, with one of the kicksleds ordered from Scandia Kicksleds in Houston, MN. A kicksled is called a “spark” in Norway (spark is Norwegian for “kick”). They are made of metal and maple wood. One student uses the handles to push while kicking. There is also a seat in front for a second student, allowing all abilities to participate.
