Become a Delegate at your District Convention

Why should I be a delegate?
I should be a delegate to:

  • Represent my lodge
  • Make decisions for our district
  • Meet other members in my district
  • Promote Norwegian culture
  • Work to ensure the perpetuity of Sons of Norway
  • Share ideas in person with members from throughout the district
  • Learn a new cultural skill
  • Learn about the Sámi culture
  • Bring ideas back to my lodge

How do I become a delegate?

  • Make sure that your membership is current and dues have been paid
  • Check your calendar to make sure you are available for the dates listed
  • Watch for announcements from your lodge about upcoming delegate elections
  • Place your name on the list of candidates or ask someone in your lodge to nominate you
  • Let other members know you are interested in serving as a delegate so they can vote for you

What about alternates?

  • An alternate is elected for each delegate. In case the delegate is unable to fulfill their duty, the alternate fills in
  • An alternate may be called upon at very short notice but should be available if needed*
  • An alternate may be elected to replace a specific delegate or be in line as first, second, third, etc order If needed
  • Same membership and dues requirements apply to alternates

It is very important to have alternates, so a lodge is represented in case of an unexpected situation.

*If the registration fee has been paid, and a hotel reservation has been made, the registration would apply to the alternate; the delegate and alternate should make personal arrangements to transfer the hotel room to the alternate so they could have the group room rate.

But it costs too much

  • Reach out to your lodge and district leaders, they may have resources available for you to utilize

But I can’t drive that far

  • Inquire with other lodges in your area to see if carpooling is an option
