Transferring a Member into your Lodge

If someone contacts you about transferring their membership into your lodge, and your lodge is happy to accept them as a member:

  • You do not need to collect any money when a member transfers in, unless their membership is suspended or cancelled.
  • Get their name and member number, and the names and member numbers of any other family members who are transferring into your lodge.
  • Send an email to [email protected] with the word “Transfer” in the subject. Include your lodge’s name and number, your name and officer position and the names and member numbers of the people transferring in.
  • Sons of Norway Headquarters staff will transfer the member(s) into your lodge and send the ones who are 16 or older a new membership card in the mail.
  • You can also request a transfer by mail: download the Transfer Request form from the Forms area of sofn.com. Fill out the first ‘A’ section and mail it to Sons of Norway Headquarters. If you want a prorated portion of their local lodge dues portion, fill out section ‘C’ and mail it to the Financial or Membership Secretary of their former lodge.
  • You do not need to collect any money when a member transfers in, if their membership is already current.

Adding a New Family Member into a Household

Sometimes an Individual Member wants to change to a Family Membership by adding a new person to their household. Or, sometimes an already existing Family Membership needs to include a new person. To accomplish this:

  • The member can go to www.sofn.com.
  • They should click on the Join/Renew button in the upper right corner.
  • They should select “Add a Family Member” which is the third button down.
  • They need to enter their first and last name, and their member number.
  • Once in, they can enter the new member’s name and birthdate,  among other choices.
  • Click “Add Member” and the member will be added to the household. They will be given the same due date as the member signing them up, and they will be listed as their recruiter.
  • This can also be done by mail by filling out a New Member Form for the new person. At the top of the form, write “Adding to Family Membership” and the name and member number of a person already at that address. Do not collect any money at this time.
  • If the type of membership is being changed from an Individual to a Family Membership, you do not need to collect any money. The Family Membership dues rate will be charged on their next due date renewal notice.
  • If the person they want to add to the household is ALREADY a member, please contact [email protected], and we can update the records in the system. Otherwise, there can end up being duplicate records.
