Tomorrow is a big day for Sons of Norway member Sue Bjornstad because, as the winner of last year’s Norwegian Experience contest, she’s about to go on the trip of a lifetime! The Sons of Norway blog is going to follow along throughout her trip to Norway, which is sponsored by our travel partner Borton Overseas, and report back on her experiences. But before she leaves we were able to connect with her and learn a little about what’s in store for her.

SofN: First, congratulations on winning last year’s contest. I’ve seen your itinerary and it looks like you’ve got an amazing trip planned. Is there any one thing that you are most looking forward to?

SB: We are getting excited for our trip to Norway!  I am looking forward to seeing the mountains and the fjords.  Also getting away for 10 days will be nice.

SofN: Will you be visiting any family, or locations that are connected to your ancestors?

SB: We will not be going to any places where our family came from on this trip.  Our families are spread out from north to south and east to west so I decided to make this trip for us (my husband and I).  Our next trip to Norway will be to visit family.

SofN: Is this your first trip to Norway?

SB: I have been to Norway before.  I went last year – it was on my bucket list.  My husband did not go, though, so I am excited to share this trip with him.  We are both of Norwegian descent so it will be fun to share our homeland with him this year.

SofN: How has your experience been working with Borton Overseas?

SB: My trip last year was as part of a tour group.  It was enjoyable, however I am looking forward to this trip that was created for us.

Linda at Borton Overseas has been wonderful to work with.  She has arranged everything down to the last little detail and has answered every question I asked.  Great travel company!

SofN: Before we close this interview, tell us a little about your background in Sons of Norway. How did come to join the organization?

SB: I joined Sons of Norway because I wanted to go to Norway.  I was able to take a language class and found someone to travel with me.  I have enjoyed my few years with Sons of Norway and love meeting people and talking about Norway.  I volunteer for our events and was membership secretary last year.  We had a very successful membership drive recruiting 20 new members.  I have moved up to VP and still get to work with membership. In fact my husband is the membership secretary this year!  We are enjoying Sons of Norway as a couple.  His favorite part is the food!

The Norwegian Experience Recruitment Contest is a program for Sons of Norway members and supported through a partnership with our travel partner, Borton Overseas. To learn more about Borton and the discount they offer to all members, visit them online at www.bortonoverseas.com.
