District 5 is the proud recipient of the 2018 Shellie Milford Spirit of the Birkie Award, given to a volunteer, race chief, vendor, community member or skier whose selfless, thoughtful or heroic act contributes to a successful race and a positive experience for participants in the Birkie.
Members of Sons of Norway District 5 have provided more than 30 years of service to the American Birkebeiner, the largest cross-country ski race in North America, held each year in Hayward, Wisconsin.
Lodge members from across the district have baked and served thousands of cookies, registered children for the Barnebirke ski event, and assisted with moving supplies and materials across Hayward.
In addition, District 5 members meet and greet skiers at the Expo Center and spread the word about Sons of Norway. Sons of Norway applauds District 5’s enthusiasm for celebrating the Nordic lifestyle and being a fine example of living Sons of Norway’s mission.
