The name Doug Warne may sound familiar to many of you. After all, he serves on the Sons of Norway Foundation Board of Governors and is the voice behind the Seattle-based radio show “Scandinavian Hour,”which he has hosted for 55 years. Today, Warne is the proud holder of a St. Olav Medal, bestowed by His Majesty King Harald V in recognition of his outstanding service in promoting relations between Norway and the U.S.
Warne was awarded the St. Olav Medal at the royal palace in Oslo, Norway on October 16.
Warne, from Seattle, Washington, attended the University of Oslo International Summer School. His experience abroad inspired him to pay it forward by starting a new Sons of Norway Foundation scholarship, called the Douglas Warne-Rolf & Wenche Eng Scholarship. The scholarship is for qualified applicants to attend educational institutions in Norway and assists with the costs of tuition.
In 2012, Warne was selected as Person of the Year by the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce -Greater Seattle Chapter. Warne is also the past president of the Norwegian Commercial Club and Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Lodge #2-001.
