The Sons of Norway Foundation has been proudly supporting accomplished and innovative students since our founding in 1966. We are pleased to share their stories with the donors and members who make our scholarships happen. Here is one such message from 2021 King Olav V Norwegian-American Heritage Scholarship recipient Amalia Waiter Lewis.

“Thank you so much for your contribution to my studies in Norway. It has been an amazing experience to be in Norway! I have been lucky enough to explore much of the beautiful Norwegian landscape and immerse myself in the culture. I have been on many amazing cabin trips and have familiarized myself with parts of Norwegian outdoors culture that were foreign to me, namely cross-country skiing and mushroom foraging! Through my time here I have gotten to know many Norwegians and Scandinavians and have more appreciation for the culture. My schooling has been engaging and has opened my mind to new ways of thinking. A very interesting class was one called Experts in Teamwork, in which I was placed in a group with students from all disciplines and cultures—engineers, physicists, artists from Norway, India, Pakistan, and the US—and together we researched a site of conflict between Sámi reindeer herders and a wind farm. We recently went to Stavanger to present this research at a symposium on Environment and Just Transitions. I’ve included a link to the video below. Thank you, once again for your contribution to my experience— being here has completely changed my life!”

Applications for scholarships are open. This year we are offering 16 different scholarships including the new Elaine Nelson Scholarship for student members studying Business, Agriculture, or Education.
