The region of the world known for its “midnight sun” recently experienced an event not seen in decades – a total solar eclipse. The August 12th event saw observers gathering across the Nordic countries to witness the occurrence.

Once every four years, soccer fans around the world cheer on their favorite teams participating in the FIFA World Cup. Norway fans have been in a 28-year drought, last cheering on their men’s team in the 1998 event.  

A large part of traveling in Europe is seeing the many museums the region has to offer. This year, the Nordic countries will each host special exhibits in various galleries. The coordinated goal of these exhibits is to experience art as a bridge between past and present and challenge the ways in which we engage with the world.

Artist Edvard Munch is probably best known for his painting, The Scream, but over the course of his career, he made over 1,700 other paintings, including a very special commission.

It does claim one of the longest coastlines in the world after all!

Stories of courage continue to be uncovered many years after the end of World War II. One such story was discovered by Espen Thronsen, the grandson of Norwegian resistance worker, Einar Thronsen.

Yet more Viking era treasure has been unearthed, this time in Northern Germany. By the banks of the Schlei River near Haithabu, Germany, metal detectorist Arjen Spiesswinkel made the impressive discovery.
