Last week, 65 members from lodges across Norway gathered in Stavanger to bid the Restauration god seilas (happy sailing).
The events surrounding the 200th anniversary of the Restauration’s journey to America in 1825 were the perfect occasion to bring together 65 members from Sons of Norway lodges across Norway, with Ryfylke Lodge 8-023 President Eilert Lunde at the helm of the planning. The entire District 8 board of directors was also present and met in person.
With all of the lodge members staying in the same downtown hotel, it was convenient for everyone to attend events surrounding the replica ship’s launch, to eat meals together, and to represent Sons of Norway with an information booth and enjoy the company of so many lodges coming together. Members of the following lodges were on hand to join in the commemoration:
Oslo – Christiania – 8-004
Kvinesdal – Viking 8-007
Eidsvoll – Eidsvold Lodge 8-009
Stavanger – Cleng Peerson 8-011
Arendal – Terje Vigen – 8-015
Haugesund – Haugaland – 8-018
Hjelmeland – Ryfylke Lodge 8-023
Special guest International Board Chair Luella Grangaard flew in to take part in all of the events and meet the District 8 lodge members. She presented a giant check from Sons of Norway Foundation to the Norwegian Crossings200 committee. Read more about Ms. Grangaard’s representation of Sons of Norway in Stavanger in the Sept/Oct issue of Viking and in upcoming lodge newsletters.
