The original artwork for this year’s limited edition rosemaled ornament was painted by Judy Ritger of River Falls, WI.
Learning rosemaling mainly through studies at Vesterheim Folk School in Decorah, Iowa, Judy also studied with Ragnvald Frøysadal in Norway and in the U.S. She has been rosemaling and woodcarving for many years, has taught in many areas of the United States and has taken part in three different study tours to Norway.
Judy has earned Gold Medals through Vesterheim in both rosemaling (1989) and woodcarving (1995), and sometimes she combines her folk art passions within the same piece. Judy paints using both acrylics and oils and has made a DVD on the art of kolrosing- fine line decoration in wood. This year’s Valdres-style ornament was rosemaled using acrylics. This will be Judy’s last year designing Sons of Norway’s Christmas ornament.
