Position Summary

We are looking for an Accounting Department member to drive, track and evaluate day-to-day activities for Sons of Norway. This position will oversee the financial reporting cycle for the foundation and play a key role in the financial reporting cycle for the life insurance company. This position will play a key role in workflow documentation for the purposes of internal control, business continuity and efficiency improvement. This position will be responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial statements in Statutory and GAAP. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, yearend audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position will have contact with senior-level leaders which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the transactional operations of the Sons of Norway Foundation including:
    • month and end-year process
    • accounts payable/receivable
    • gift processing
    • general ledger/fund accounting/pledge accounting
    • financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP
    • budgeting
    • tax reporting and compliance oversight
  • Material participation in the transactional operations of Sons of Norway including:
    • month and end-year process
    • accounts payable/receivable
    • cash receipts
    • general ledger
    • financial statement preparation in accordance with statutory principles
    • tax reporting and compliance oversight
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
    • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
    • Coordinate and complete annual audits
    • Provide recommendations
    • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
    • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
    • Support CFO and Accounting Manager with special projects

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
  • Proven working experience with progressive responsibilities
  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -pace setting. Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
  • Proven knowledge of statutory and GAAP accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to understand, document and improve processes
