Leadership Conference Sessions

8:30 a.m. Welcome Presentation: Second Harvest Heartland CEO Rob Zeaske

Learn about this volunteer network that feeds the hungry and how Second Harvest rallies its volunteer base. Take away tactics on how to motivate your volunteer force and maximize the impact of their efforts going forward.

9:15 a.m. Panel Discussion: Lodge Volunteer Success Stories from Norway, Canada and the United States.

Hear real-life examples of how lodges identified needs in their communities and put together successful programs for making a difference. Ask the panel questions and discern how to apply similar projects with fellow members at your lodge.

10 a.m. Coffee Break

10:20 a.m. Hands-on Activity: Catholic United Financial, Gather4Good

Giving back: Pack up hygiene kits for those in need with other conference participants and learn about how Catholic United, a fraternal society similar to Sons of Norway, utilizes its volunteer groups to serve in their communities. Session will include tips for taking photos that will help showcase your lodge in your community, thanks to avid photographer and Sons of Norway member Kaye Wergedal, Vestafjell Lodge 6-146 and District 6 PRO, who will also be on hand to cheer on your efforts.

NOON-1 p.m. Lunch

1 p.m. Using Social Media to Benefit Your Lodge

Gear up to hone your social media know-how with expert David Erickson, VP of online marketing at Karwoski & Courage, a leading Twin Cities PR firm. Learn tips for building awareness in your community to support your member recruitment efforts. Session is for all skill levels!

2:30 p.m. Coffee Break

2:50 p.m. Representatives from Hope 4 Youth

Be prepared to hear riveting stories of reaching out and making an amazing difference in people’s lives. You will find even more meaning and reward in your volunteerism after listening to success narratives from this outstanding service organization.

3:30 p.m. Mayor of Bloomington Gene Winstead

Bloomington’s energetic mayor will share his thoughts on working with volunteer teams, what motivates them and how the City of Bloomington has benefitted from its volunteer base.

4 p.m. Closing Remarks: Joseph J. Annotti, President and CEO, American Fraternal Alliance

Sons of Norway is a member of the American Fraternal Alliance, which unites nearly 59 not-for-profit fraternal benefit societies operating in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. Alliance member societies represent nearly 8 million individuals, making it one of America’s largest member-volunteer networks. Through advocacy, developing policy and providing opportunities for a broader understanding of fraternal benefit societies as financial providers and community service activists, the Alliance serves as a vital and valued resource.

Folk Art Competition

Sons of Norway is pleased to invite all members to participate in the 2018 International Folk Art Exhibition & Competition. All members, both amateurs and professionals, are encouraged to display their skills at Sons of Norway’s largest folk art event as part of the International Convention in Bloomington, Minnesota August 16 through 18.
